About us

Visit us on the beautiful Ledine plateau, where the watershed divides the springs which flow to the Adriatic or the Black sea. We farm on 43 hectares of land in a nature friendly and ecological way (we have the certificate for ecological production), while we do our best to keep with the tradition of our ancestors. Our food, Jureč's home delicacies, is home-made. We recommend the bread from the brick oven, the roast, pork leg, and of course Idrija žlikrofi, buckwheat žganci, walnut and hazelnut štruklji (rolled dumplings), and during Easter aleluja, which is rarely made anywhere else.

The village of Ledine is situated on a beautiful plateau which lies at 800m above sea level. The village name Ledine was first mentioned in written form in year 1063. Since then, generations have been known to make a living very modestly. In the beginning all villagers were either farmers or peasant farmers. The cultivation of land requires skill and hard work, therefore they had to work a lot in order to survive; at first all by hand, then with help of draught animals and small machine tools. Luckily, the small hills named Gradišče and Sivka contributed a lot to the appropriate climate, which consequently led (almost every year) to a good harvest of different kinds of cereal crops, especially wheat.

The fields were manured, ploughed, harrowed and crops sowed all by hand. When the wheat grew it was reaped and put into sheaves which were dried in "kozolec" (a freestanding vertical rack made of wood). When the wheat was dry it was taken to a shed where the wheat was threshed. The extracted grain was put into bags made of sheepskin and taken to watermills in Pečnik where it was ground into flour. From this flour brown bread was baked. The farmers of Ledine grew different cereals (wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat) and were also known for bread baking, so the nickname "Hlebčarji" (the ones who bake loaves) stuck to them.

Our farm was just as all other farms in Ledine because our ancestors also produced cereals. The farming has developed since then, but we are very proud of our large collection of all mechanical tools from the past which are exhibited in our shed called "Jurečeva šupa".
